PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

A Shipbuilding Gantry Crane (also known as a Shipyard Gantry Crane or Goliath Crane) is a heavy-duty rail-mounted portal crane purpose-built for ship assembly, hull block lifting, and drydock operations. It is designed with large lifting capacity, wide span, and substantial lifting height, specially used for large-scale hull section transport, abutment joining, and overturning in dockyards.

Unlike standard industrial gantry cranes, shipbuilding gantry cranes operate at working grades M7–M8 (ISO 4301), meaning they handle frequent, heavy, and shock-inducing load cycles without fatigue failure. The structure consists of a rigid outrigger, a flexible outrigger, a main beam (available in single-girder or double-girder configuration), hoisting trolleys, a trolley traveling mechanism, and an electrical control system.

APPLICATION

1.Hull Block Lifting and Positioning in Pre‑assembly Yards
The crane transports prefabricated hull blocks (often weighing several hundred tons) from the block assembly shop to the stockyard or directly to the berth, and positions them precisely on the keel blocks using mm‑level accuracy.

2.Hull Block Overturning / Flipping
During welding and painting, blocks need to be turned over. The crane’s upper and lower trolleys work in coordination to safely flip large sections (up to 1,500 t) while maintaining stability, allowing double‑sided access for workers and automated equipment.

3.Tandem Lifting of Mega‑Blocks
For extra‑heavy or oversized sections that exceed the capacity of a single crane, two shipbuilding gantry cranes are synchronised via PLC master‑slave control to lift loads in tandem, with deviation kept within ±5 mm – essential for constructing large container ships and LNG carriers.

4.Final Assembly and Erection in Dry Dock
In the building dock, the crane lifts and lowers each block into its final position, aligns it with adjacent sections, and holds it steady while welding and joining are carried out. This is the core operation for completing the hull structure.

5.Ship Repair and Major Equipment Replacement
During vessel overhauls, the crane removes heavy components such as main engines, propellers, rudders, and deck machinery. It also lifts replacement parts and assists in dry‑docking operations for both commercial and naval vessels.

6.Offshore Platform and FPSO Module Fabrication
The crane handles topside modules, jacket legs, and mooring structures in offshore fabrication yards. Its high duty class (M8) supports the intensive 24/7 production schedules typical of module assembly, and its wide span covers large assembly areas without repositioning the crane.
